Each year the JDRF holds a Walk to Cure Diabetes event in every major Australian city. The charity walk is the primary fundraising event for this very worthwhile charity and also acts as the foundation’s key social event. On the day of the walk, our staff will be joining in to help organise the activity as well as enjoying being amongst such a vibrant community.

Type 1 Diabetes is one of the most common chronic diseases in children, it occurs more frequently than cancer, cystic fibrosis, multiple sclerosis and muscular dystrophy. Over 120,000 Australians suffer from Type 1 Diabetes. Through the excellent work of organisations such as the JDRF, researchers are steadily closing in on a cure for this debilitating disease.  Our Brisbane office is extremely proud of their association with the JDRF.

NAWIC is an industry body that supports and promotes women working in the building and construction industry.  Formed in 1995, NAWIC is a ‘not-for-profit’ organisation run by a volunteer Board of Directors.

NAWIC’s mission is:

• To raise the profile of women working in the construction industry
• To be a positive instrument for change in the construction industry
• To promote and share construction industry best practice
• To meet, support and network with other women in the construction industry

Point has established a sub-committee including staff across our Melbourne, Canberra and Brisbane offices and is proud to support NAWIC and its initiatives.

Point has pledged an amount in excess of $25,000 in support of this fantastic and very much needed cause.  Lifecycle will consist of a continuous 24 hour x 7 day cycling relay and schools awareness campaign conducted throughout Canberra in September 2012, that seeks maximum involvement from the Canberra community.  Point staff from the Canberra Office have established an Organising Committee in conjunction with the Leukaemia Foundation and are actively planning the event and securing further corporate sponsorship and schools involvement.

ADPIA

ADPIA is the peak industry body representing the direct property investment industry. Established in 1999, the association now represents around $35 billion of direct property assets under management. ADPIA’s primary goal is to give a considered and audible voice to managers of direct property and their investors. The Association does this through active engagement with Government, regulators, industry and investor groups, media and other key stakeholders. The aim of ADPIA’s members is to help Australians build wealth and financial security by collectively investing in property through managed property investments and property syndicates. ADPIA’s membership includes property fund managers, custodians, property financiers and other professionals in the property industry.

In addition to some highly informative sessions attendees enjoyed a Black Tie Gala dinner, sponsored by Quintessential Equities, which was held at the Australian War Memorial under the impressive G-for George Lancaster Bomber in Anzac Hall. The night included fabulous live (and interactive) acts with a 1940’s song and dance trio and first class Canberra-based band Annie and the Armadillos.

Melissa (100m Sprint), Lauren (400m Hurdles) and Brendan (400m Hurdles) are among Australia’s top talent competing for Gold later this year in India. Point’s sponsorship will assist the athletes and their coach, Matthew Beckenham, in their lead up to the October Games. The intense schedule will see the team travelling to Germany for the IAAF World Challenge, before making it to Delhi for the Commonwealth Games’ opening ceremony.
